Bedroom Beauty Challenge: Love

So here is my attempt at the bedroom beauty challenge from Louise/Sprinkle of Glitter. It was pretty fun to do! Here is a link to the challenge. I'm not very good at makeup, so this gave me a chance to practice. Please excuse my hair, it was a long day at school. I also haven't done it properly all week because I need to get healthier products for my hair, which I can finally do this weekend. All the products I currently own(Shampoos and Conditioners etc.) were stripping my hair of it's moisture and preventing it from gaining new moisture. That being said, I have worn it in a bun(a very messy one) all week, which I'm really getting tired of. Here is a link to Louise's Blog, you should definitely check her out if you haven't heard of her yet, I love her. She also has a youtube channel, which is the same as her blog name.

Since February's theme is Love, I tried to do a warm look with pink on my eyes and cheeks and lips. I also did a bit of a winged eyeliner, just because I liked the way it looks. I really Detest taking selfies, so I spent a very long time trying to get an acceptable picture haha. Please excuse my ugly bathroom wall, it's going to be redone soon :)

Here is a picture of all the products I used, with descriptions down below. Sorry about the quality of the photo.

Eyeshadow: Both MAC, I can't read what the pink one is but the are both frosts and the other one is called, VEX. I used the pink one on my cheeks as well.
Eye Primer: It's a MAC paint pot in Rubenesque
Foundation: It's more a of a build able powder, than a foundation. It's MAC Studio Fix in the tone, NW43.
Mascara: I need a new one, this one is getting old and clumpy but it's Lancome's Definicils High Definition Mascara
Brows: I use this to keep my brows straight, it also softens them a bit, because the color is brown and my eyebrows look more black. It's MAC's Brow Set in the color, Show-Off.
Brushes: The double ended brushes are from CVS, my local drugstore. They are by essence of beauty. One is blending and eyeshadow, the other is blush and powder. The last brush is the MAC 252 brush, it's an eyeshadow brush.

I forgot the lipstick in the photo but it's Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick in the Pearl finish. It's the color 150, Cocoa Bronze. I just put some lip balm on top to make it lighter, it's a really dark color. I also forgot the eyeliner, it's the Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Black.

One very awful mirror pic of me. However, you can sort of see my red nail polish which I thought fit into the love theme. It's by Estee Lauder in number 90, Red Hot. It was a gift from my Grandma :) you can also see part of the wall in my room, with some of my artwork from earlier years, and half of my dog sitting on my gym bag.

Cool Closet Find

So a while little ago, I was cleaning out my closet and I happened to find something that I ended up really liking. I have no where it came from, or how it got in my closet. I've been wearing it a lot lately, and it's just so unique and fun.

It's a scarf! I have never seen such a cool looking scarf before. The yarn, the colors, everything is just so lovely. I'm including some other pictures to hopefully give a better look at some of the details.

I like that I can find really cool things in my closet. After further cleaning, I also found unworn clothes  that are really cute, and a long lost pair of shoes. My closet is not big whatsoever, I'm surprised so many things were hiding in there. It also gives me an opportunity to donate clothes I no longer wear, to make room for new ones. I wonder if anyone else has found interesting things while cleaning.

Valentine's Day Musings

This is a little late, but Valentine's isn't officially over for me until all the sweets are gone. With that being said, I've come to realize a few things about the holiday. The first being that I really don't like those fancy little chocolate boxes. It's an awful feeling when you are scanning the box, and you find an appetizing looking piece, you take a bite, and it's some weird mystery flavor that is completely inedible. I'd much rather go for some Reeses, Hershey Bars, Dove Chocolates, Hershey Kisses, Godiva(their chocolate covered strawberries are my favorite), snickers etc. They always come in cute little Valentine's Day themed wrappers too. However, it is the thought that counts, and anything received on Valentine's Day makes me feel extremely happy. I just won't eat the mystery chocolates.

Something else I noticed about Valentine's is people constantly being in a negative mood about it. I always hear, "Single on Valentine's Day, sucks to be me." Or, "I hate Valentine's Day, all it ever makes me feel is lonely." Things like that bothered me a bit for some reason. To me, Valentine's Day is about love, and it's about making people feel loved and appreciated. The smile on people's faces when they receive a valentine is enough to make me extremely happy. I also get an extremely warm feeling in my heart when I receive one. I may have a boyfriend, who I adore, but he is not the only factor of my happiness on Valentine's Day. My family, and my friends, have been making my Valentine's day special for the past 17 years. To those of you who will eternally hate Valentine's Day, for other reasons, I can't change your mind. If it's because you don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend to share it with, I do hope you have your friends and family so you can stop being so down about it.

Well, I guess this turned into somewhat of a little rant. Sorry!!

For anyone who didn't receive any valentines at all, I hope this belated one helps :)

Winding down for the night/name change

Due to me having school tomorrow, it's time to settle in for the night. I was super excited when my mom brought home honey after food shopping today because I am finally able to use it with my favorite tea, in my favorite mug. I love tea with honey, it gives it just the right amount of sweetness.

My favorite tea is TAZO's Zen Green Tea. It has spearmint in it, which makes for a nice minty flavor. It is sold as a Starbucks drink, and I was excited to know that I could buy my own for home.

I happen to love Tinkerbell :) as well as the colors of this mug. It was a gift from a friend which makes it much more special.

Also I've decided to change my blog name, because I'm extremely indecisive. Watch me change it again in a few days.

Lovely, delicious, Body Shop products

I have to admit, I have an addiction to The Body Shop products. It all started in 6th grade when my friend gave me a gift pack of the strawberry scented body butter, hand soap, and shower gel. Every one of their products smells delicious, and they are environmentally friendly :) My favorite product of theirs has to be the body butters(I believe those are their most popular as well). All their body butters are super moisturizing and instantly get rid of any dry skin, in the winter time especially. In the summer time, they make my skin glow!! I recently ran out of a jumbo tub of the coconut scented body butter(my favorite), and a sweet lemon one. Unfortunately, they've stopped making the jumbo tubs :( These are the mini body butters I received for christmas. They came in a cute lollipop shaped container.

My thoughts on the scents, from the pale yellow one to the left:

Pale yellow color, Moringa: I don't really know how to describe this one but it is a light, sort of fluffy scent. I really like it, it's not too strong but you can definitely smell it. It kind of wakes me up when I put it on.

Orange color, Satsuma: If you love citrus, this smells delicious. Although it may have a tendency to make people think you slathered an orange all over your body, it's really refreshing and is great summer scent.

Brown color, Coconut: My favorite!! I don't really know if it smells like a coconut(as I have never really smelled one). At first smell, I wouldn't associate it with coconut either.  You know, that fake smelling air freshener type coconut scent. It is more of a warm, beachy scent. It's so so creamy, and the scent is pleasant without being overwhelming.

Red color, Strawberry: This one smells so delicious. Like a very fresh strawberry smoothie. I just love it. I don't know if this is normal, but it makes me happy when I put it on.

Cream color, Shea: This one smells like shea butter, which probably doesn't tell you much more than the name of scent did. It isn't an extremely strong scent, very neutral, with a hint of nuttiness. I think it would  be a good body butter to use perfume with. The smell of it probably wouldn't clash with the smell of the perfume. I have yet to try that out :)

I apologize for not having much of a constructive opinion, as I really like them all.

Some other products that I really like:

If you have really really dry hands in the winter(which I did last year). This helps a ton. My hands were chapped, and the skin was breaking. As soon as I put this on, I felt instant relief, and my hands were instantly moisturized. It only took a couple of days for them to heal. I suppose it smells like hemp seed oil, as that is it's main ingredient. The smell might be a little strong for some, but it's not too overbearing in my opinion.

This is nice little treat every time I go to wash my hands. It is soap free, I think that is what makes it non-drying(perfect for winter!). My hands even feel soft after I use it. Instead of my whole body smelling citrusy, just my hands and my bathroom do. The scent is more faint than the body butter as well. Of course, it is sold in other scents so you can choose which one you like best. This is an older one that I had, and just started using after I ran out of my other one. I think there is different packaging now.

Another The Body Shop product that I really liked, but unfortunately ran out of it, is the body scrub in sweet lemon. It's filled with exfoliating sugar crystals. I like to use it on my arms, feet, and legs(especially before shaving). It leaves a sort of oily film, which bothers some people, but I happen to really like it. It's only noticeable when you are in the shower, because oil and water don't mix. My skin feels super soft and moisturized afterwards, and all the dead skin is gone.

Well, thats all for now. Thanks for reading!!

Polished Boots!

Since today is my last day off from school, I decided to be super productive. I cleaned my room from top to bottom, and organized a bunch of my stuff. I also ended up polishing my boots. Although it's not my best job at polishing(as I did it really quickly) they look a whole lot better than they did before.
On the left is my boot before polishing, on the right is my boot after polishing.   I definitely think there is a big difference.

Both of them are all done! I feel like they look better in person, but I guess it's because the camera doesn't lie.

Favorite Winter Boots/booties

So clearly I'm a little bored as this would be my third post in one day. But I really like posting on my blog :)

During the winter time, boots are one of my most favorite things ever! So I figured I should share some of my favorite pairs.

The first pair, and probably the ones I wear the most, are my Enzo Angiolini 'Saylem" Riding Boots in dark grey leather. After drooling over these for months, and saving up my birthday money, I finally ordered them from Nordstrom's last year. They were an investment piece for me, costing $129.00. But they are well worth it as they have put up with A LOT of wear and tear. Also, I can easily find a way to wear them everyday. They are in dire need of a polish, which I can never seem to find the time to do. I like pairing them with high socks, or leg warmers, like in this picture.
My next pair is the Steve Madden 'Troopa' Boot in Cognac. I got this pair at Nordstrom's as well last year, they were a gift from my grandma and cost $99.95. I believe this color was only sold in store, I 'm not sure why though. I wear them almost as much as my first pair and I love them! They look cute with almost everything. Steve Madden has come up with an updated version of this boot for this year I believe, but it looks pretty much the same, with thicker laces. Speaking of laces, you can lace these boots up differently to get different styles. My favorite, is the way they are in the picture.

These booties are the Sherpa Booties, from The Gap. They were originally given to my sister as a christmas present, but she didn't want them(I don't know why) so I took them. They are super comfy, and are extremely warm. The soles are water proof, which is nice for walking in the snow. They look nice, so that I can feel comfy without looking like a bum. Sometimes, I wish they were my slippers so I didn't have to take them off! They are on sale for $39.95 right now. I think it may be due to all of their store closings(or just end of winter sales).
This last pair is also from The Gap as well, unfortunately I don't know what they are called, as they were a christmas present(for me this time), and I can't find them online. I need better lighting, because in this picture they look grey, when they are a little more green. These are perfect for when I am going out to dinner, or somewhere  where I want to look nice, but not extremely dressy, and I don't want my feet to be too cold. They can also be dressed down for casual wear. And for heels, they are very comfortable.

If you don't want to wait to save up your money, or you don't want to spend a lot on boots, I highly reccomend DSW. They have a wide variety of really cute styles for good prices, and I get a lot of my shoes from there :) Also, if you are investing in a pair of boots, do research. Make sure you really like the style, and that the color is practical for your wardrobe. I found it helpful to look at reviews to make sure the boots I was purchasing are durable, so that I could get my money's worth of wear. If you are not day dreaming about those boots every day, and are not completely certain you want them, don't buy them!

Fun Craft or Gift Idea

So I'm sure many people have heard of the awesome crayon melting craft. In which you glue crayons on a canvas, and use a blowdryer to melt them. As the wax drips down the canvas, it leaves a really cool effect. Well around christmas, I decided I wanted to hand make my christmas presents for my family. I had done "crayon meltings" as gifts before, and I knew how easy(and fun!) it was. However, I wanted to put a creative spin on it. Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of every step, as I had to replace my phone. Here is what I came up with:

What you will need:

  • Crayons: I used two 120 packs, and two 64 packs. I find that Crayola melts best.

  • Canvases: I used 9 by 11 inch. They were on sale in packs of seven at Michaels Craft Store, I only needed five.

  • A blowdryer: Any blowdryer that can get pretty hot will do.

  • Black acrylic paint: I used Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paint in Mars Black.

  • Synthetic Paintbrushes: I'm not sure what kind I used. However, they can be found at most craft stores, they don't leave very visible brush marks. It would be helpful to have a larger and a smaller one.

  • A pencil: I just happened to use a mechanical one. Any graphite pencil with an eraser is good.

  • Glue: I used tacky glue, it has a strong hold, it doesn't take too long to dry, but it also doesn't dry to quickly.

  • Scissors: Any scissors you have will be just fine :) These ones were cheap from the dollar store.

Step One:
Choose what color schemes you want to use, you can do all rainbow, or all one color. I chose to use the favorite colors of the people who I was giving the crayon melting to. For example, I used all purples, greens, blues, yellows, and grays in one of them. The greater the variety in color, the less crayon boxes you will need to purchase. Of course, you can always use the left over crayons for future projects, or for drawing :)

Step Two:
Pick a silhouette to draw on your canvas, I chose to do an Africa theme. I looked up silhouettes online and drew them onto my canvas. If you are not able to draw it free hand, just print the image out, tape it to an index card, or card stock, cut it out, and you have a stencil! Make sure you press lightly with the pencil so you can erase if you make a mistake. Then, put some of the black paint on a little paper plate, or paint palate if you have one. Use the bigger brush to scoop up paint and put it on the canvas, and the smaller brush to spread it around your outline. Let it dry, it doesn't take long :)

Step Three:
Arrange your crayons on the canvas, and glue them down. If you have your canvas in landscape, meaning you are gluing your crayons on a longer side, you would need more crayons. If you have your canvas in portrait, which means you are gluing your crayons on a shorter side, you would need fewer crayons. I chose not to, but you can cut the wrapper off your crayons. Take a sharper knife, and make a cut straight down the crayon. You may need to apply some pressure, and voila, the wrapper should easily peel off. Don't go too fast, to prevent the knife from slipping. If there is any indentation in the crayon, from the knife, just glue that side to the canvas so it doesn't show.

When you are done those steps you should have something like this:

Step Four:
Unless you want colorful crayon wax walls, cover them! I used a trash bag, that I cut at the seam, and poster board. I taped it to my dresser, using scotch tape, that way there would be no chance of me taking paint off the walls. That would be just my luck. Cut out a piece of card board that is relatively the same size as your silhouette. Prop your canvas up against the covered wall and you a ready to start melting!

Step Five:
Start blowdrying! It is best to hold the blowdryer facing forward at first, to get the crayons started. Then point the blowdryer downwards to direct the wax in that direction. Hold the piece of cardboard firmly against the silhouette when the wax reaches it, so that the wax won't cover it. As you can see below, I kind of messed up on this step with the tree, but it still ended up looking cool! I had to scrape off some wax, and paint over it where it was too opaque. Be careful, it does get hot, you might need to take a quick break if you are doing a lot of canvases :) After about 5 minutes, your crayons should be pretty much melted and your finished product should turn out something like this:

All Done!!! Don't forget to sign your creation!( I hadn't done that yet in this picture) Also, let me know what ideas you come up with for this project. Thanks for reading :)

Winter Lip Care

In the midst of Winter, it's hard not to have dried, chapped, lips. However, that is one of the most uncomfortable things for me. Therefore, I have found a few products that keep my lips feeling soft and smooth all winter long.

1. This first product is something I use all year long, and feel as if I can't live without it. It's the EOS Organic Lip Balm. Most Lip Balms I have tried, dry out my lips fairly quickly, and I feel as if I have to constantly reapply them. Even in the winter time, I only have to reapply the EOS Lip Balm about two times a day. Also, even after the initial glossiness(if that makes any sense) has worn off, my lips still feel extremely smooth. I like the fact that it's organic, so I know I am not putting potentially harmful substances on my lips. It has cute packaging, which I think is what made it so popular in the first place. It also smells good and doesn't taste waxy. My favorite flavors include: Strawberry Sorbet, Honeysuckle Honeydew, and Sweet Mint. It costs about three dollars, and although that is pricey for a lip balm, it lasts literally forever, it's not greasy, and it is hard to lose. And trust me, I am the queen of losing lip balms.

2. My next product, is something had been meaning to try out for awhile, and I finally got it. It's the Lush Sugar Scrub. This scrub exfoliates and moisturizes. To use it, you take a little bit of the scrub on your finger, and put it on your lips in gentle, circular, motions. The mixture is kind of dry, so do it over a sink because some of the sugar crystals will fall off. To take it off, just gently use a wet a washcloth with warm water, or, the instructions say you can even lick it off! It actually tastes pretty good. Afterwards your lips will feel insanely moisturized and extremely soft, and the feeling lasts for quite some time. I use my sugar scrub about every two weeks. You don't need a lot so it lasts pretty well. Lush products are on the pricy side, the Sugar Scrub cost about ten dollars, but it is a great investment!

3. This third product is for a fun pop of color, that won't dry out my lips. It's the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains. It is basically a lip stain with a moisturizing component. When I think of lip stain I think, extremely drying. One lip stain I used made my lips feel like sand paper, yuck! However, because this is a balm stain, sand paper lips are never a problem. I don't think it would work as a staple lip moisturizer, but it definitely doesn't dry them out. The stain lasts so long, almost a full 8 hour day! Since it doesn't wear off easily, I put my EOS on top of it for added moisture. I currently own the color, crush. It is a very saturated, but I like that is super build-able so I can control how much color shows up. I have full lips, so very bright colors sometimes draw too much attention to them. It also has a very nice minty smell to it, and I love mint. I am currently trying to decide what other colors to try!

4. My last product is water, believe it or not. What you put in your body is often reflected on the outside. If you're hydrated, your lips will be too. I always make sure I fill up a reusable water bottle to take with me to school everyday. It helps because you don't have to use the usually dirty water fountains, and you don't have to ask your teacher to go get water. It is also eco friendly :) I am currently using the 20oz Rubbermaid Premium Chug Bottle. It has a finger loop, so it is easy to carry, it fits into standard cup holders, it doesn't leak, and it is easy to drink out of. It is also inexpensive (a four pack can be found for 12 dollars) BPA free, dishwasher, and microwave safe.

Phew! That was a long post. Thank you for reading! Hopefully this helps anybody who has issues with dry lips in the winter. There are definitely a lot more products that I would recommend for winter lip care. These are just my most trusted favorites. Let me know if there is anything in particular you want to hear about.

First Post Yay!

So, after months and months of thinking about it, I finally made a blog. I just have always thought it would be fun to have one. Most of my future posts, are going to be pretty random. As there are a lot of random things that I am interested in, and want to talk about. I guess I could start with a little bit about me:  I am 17, and am from America. I love art, and all things crafty and creative. I am a dancer, and I love to travel, explore, and try new things.

Oh! My blog name is in French, because,  even though I am taking Spanish, French is my favorite language. La Petite Coccinelle means, The Little Ladybug, I liked the way it sounded in both languages. Well, thats it for now :) stay tuned for some hopefully interesting stuff!
